La porte de Gand est l’une des quatre portes médiévales subsistantes à Bruges. C'était la
porte d'entrée de la ville pour les étrangers, et pour les habitants la limite avec le monde
extérieur. Les marchandises y passaient pour entrer et sortir de la ville. Son architecture
robuste illustre aussi sa fonction défensive.
The Ghent gate is one of Bruges’ four remaining medieval city gates. For foreigners, this
gate was the entrance to the city, while for the inhabitants it was a gateway to the outside
world. The gates were also the channels through which goods were transported in and out
of the city. Naturally, the gate of Ghent also had a defensive role, as its robust architecture
shows.
De Gentpoort is een van de vier bewaarde middeleeuwse stadspoorten van Brugge. Voor
vreemden gaf de poort toegang tot het leven in de stad, voor de inwoners was het de grens
met de buitenwereld. Via de stadspoorten voerde men goederen in en uit de stad. De Gent-
poort had natuurlijk ook een verdedigingsfunctie. Dat merk je aan haar robuuste architec-
tuur.
