THE 2 SEAS INTERREG PROGRAMME
The “Walls and Gardens” project has been established within the framework of the 2 Seas INTERREG IVA cross-border programme, involving participation from France, England, Flanders and the Netherlands (http://www.interreg4a-2mers.eu/en). This European programme aims to encourage close cooperation between national, regional and local authorities for the benefit of border populations, in a maritime context.
Interreg offers the following advantages:
technical and institutional framework for partnerships (convention, European regulation, Commission policy),
financial resources through ERDF funds,
approach favouring European integration.
The programme has an ERDF budget of around €167 million for the period 2007-2013, with a maximum ERDF intervention rate of 50%.
The “Walls and Gardens” project was approved within the framework of priority 3 “Improving quality of life” at the steering committee meeting of May 10thand 11th 2011. More specifically, it falls within the scope of operational objective ‘D’: “promote, enhance and conserve the common heritage and cultural partnerships, including development of creativity and design and joint cooperation between the media”
