CITY OF LILLE

Since 2003, an important  replanning of the Citadel (110ha) has been launched by the City of Lille.

Heritage, uses and nature are the keywords of the studies and works started. The Champ de Mars (21 ha) and the Sport and Leisure Area (12ha) are the most important operations, aiming at giving back coherence of the entire citadel, increasing quality of natural areas (dry plains and wet zones) and contextualizing the missing parts of the fortifications.

Before the works could begin, general studies were needed dealing with landscaping, ecology, architecture, maintenance and heritage. These studies were financed by the Walls and Gardens project.

In 2014,the city will host a symposium of the “Walls and Gardens” project, organised with the Departements of Nord and Pas-de-Calais.

Le projet «Murailles et Jardins» s'inscrit dans le cadre du programme INTERREG IVA des 2 Mers
